The Belgian Pavilion, with its unique "brain cells" and transparent light and shadow effects, attracts visitors' attention. The "brain cells" are achieved using the highly elastic Fabee Stretch membrane material. The membrane area used for the "brain cells" reaches 2,500 m2. The desired shape is achieved by adjusting the tension of steel cables within the flexible membrane surface. To ensure precise positioning with various support points inside the building and avoid wrinkles, a holographic laser scanning measurement method was used to generate a three-dimensional model of the existing steel structure, providing accurate data for the membrane structure design.
To ensure the success of this project, we first created a 1:10 scale mockup, strictly controlling the membrane's expansion and contraction rate. Ultimately, the project received praise from Pavilion, the Deputy Director of the Belgian Pavilion, and the designers.
